Ask anyone who has searched for a rishta online what worries them most, and the answer is the same: is this person real? Behind cheerful profiles there can be borrowed photographs, invented jobs, hidden marriages and, occasionally, people who are not searching for a spouse at all. Verification cannot remove every risk from the process, and any bureau that promises otherwise is not being honest with you. What verification can do, done properly, is raise the cost of lying so high that most dishonest profiles never appear at all. Here is exactly how our checks work.
Why verification matters in online rishta
In the traditional process, families vouched for each other through shared neighbourhoods, workplaces and relatives. Online, that chain of trust is missing, so the platform has to rebuild it with evidence instead of introductions. A verified badge should never mean "we guarantee this person's character". It should mean something specific and checkable: this person's identity documents were seen, their face matches those documents, and a human being reviewed what they published. When a platform will not tell you what its badge means, the badge means nothing.
The three checks, step by step
Step one: CNIC verification
The member provides their Computerised National Identity Card details. The name, date of birth and identity number are checked against the profile they created, so the age and name on the profile are the ones on an official document, not the ones someone wished were true. Under Sindh law the minimum age for marriage is 18 for both men and women, and a profile that cannot prove adulthood does not proceed.
Step two: selfie match
The member takes a live selfie through the platform. This step exists to defeat the most common fraud of all: a real CNIC paired with somebody else's photographs. The selfie is compared with the identity document and the profile photographs, so the face across all three is the same person. It takes two minutes, and it quietly removes the majority of fake accounts before they are ever seen.
Step three: human photo and profile review
Finally, a member of our team looks at the profile and its photographs with human eyes. Software is good at matching faces. It is not good at noticing that a photo is a screenshot from a drama serial, that a profile's story contradicts itself, or that the pictures show a wedding ring the text forgets to mention. Every profile on our platform is checked by a human before it is presented as verified, and profiles are reviewed again when photos change.
What happens to your photos
Verification would be worthless if it came at the cost of your privacy. Profile photos are private by default: they are blurred for people who are not your matches, and you control who sees them clearly. Photos are never forwarded around messaging groups, never used in advertising, and never shared with another family without your involvement. When you verify your identity, your documents are used for the check, not displayed on your profile for strangers to read.
How to spot a fake profile on any platform
- Photos that look like a model shoot or a film still, especially a single glamorous picture with no ordinary ones.
- Refusal to verify, or long excuses about why a video call or document check is impossible.
- A story that keeps shifting: city, job and family details change between conversations.
- Rushing intimacy or secrecy, pushing to move off the platform quickly and keep the contact hidden from families.
- Any request for money, gifts, recharge or help with a sudden emergency. This is never part of a genuine rishta process.
- No family involvement, ever. Serious proposals involve families early; fraud avoids them completely.
What verification cannot promise
Honesty requires us to say what our checks do not do. They confirm identity, age and that photographs are genuine. They cannot confirm that someone is kind, truthful about their habits, or free of a complicated past, and no platform's checks can. That is why verification is the beginning of the process, not the end of it: families should still meet properly, ask their own questions, and make their own enquiries through every channel available to them, exactly as they would with a proposal that arrived through relatives.
